Welcome to The Wiltshire Flyers

We are a gathering of light aviation enthusiasts; within The Wiltshire Flyers you will find members of widely diverse interests and experience – from armchair enthusiasts to Commercial pilots – from homebuilder to PFA Inspector.

We welcome new members, so if your interest includes aircraft spotting, aircraft modeling, building an aircraft in your garage, operating your own aeroplane (microlights, gliders, helicopters, balloons, paragliders, paramotors or anything that flies), or even enjoy flying a hired one then you can feel at home here.

Meetings are held monthly in a local pub in an informal atmosphere where members come together to chat about aviation topics. Our meetings are a great opportunity to talk about flying, exchange ideas, discuss aircraft building problems, or to talk about some interesting aviation experience.
However, we do more than that. For most meetings a speaker is invited to give a talk on some aviation topic. Subjects, generally illustrated, can include unusual or adventurous flying journeys, technical topics, navigation and flight planning, aviation museums, the weather and speakers specific to YOUR type of flying.

And it doesn’t all begin and end with the Strut nights at the pub either:

We have spring and summer events (many of which non-aviation minded partners will also enjoy), which can range from barbecues on farm strips, visits to view members projects (homebuilt aircraft or vintage aircraft under restoration) to fly-ins with over 60 visiting aircraft.

Other events include museum visits, fly-outs, Young Aviator Days, Air Scout camps (where we teach the subjects and fly the Scouts), The Wiltshire Flyer’s own annual Fly-in and the Christmas Dinner.

The Wiltshire Flyers Mission

• To 0rganise a wide range of activities on a regular basis for LAA members, providing:

- Enjoyable flying activity,

- Improved safety knowledge and understanding,

- Opportunities to acquire/enhance building and maintenance skills.

• To attract through appropriate publicity both LAA members and non members. Encourage,

without insistence, non members to join the LAA

• To advance the cause of aviation through local publicity, community activities, and local

   education activity for young people

• To maintain awareness for restrictions on aviation activity (eg local strips/airfields facing

   opposition or needing planning support)

CHANGE OF NAME

The Popular Flying Association becomes the LIGHT AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION ON 1 January 2008. Activities and aims remain unchanged, but objectives will be broadened to include all classes of recreational aviation.

What are Light AIrcraft Association (LAA) Struts?

LAA Strusts are regional groups of the LAA, the objectives of which are to promote and extend the sport of recreational flying by minimising its cost through the advice and services provided by the association for:

bulletThe encouragement of amateur design, construction and operation of light and ultralight aircraft.

bulletThe formation and administration of co-ownership Groups and Clubs.

bulletThe preservation and operation of vintage aircraft.

bulletThe discharge of regulatory responsibilities assigned by statutory bodies and government departments.

bulletThe co-operation and negotiation with the government departments and other interested organisations to ensure that members' best interests are protected.

bulletGenerally to carry out such acts as may be conducive to the encouragement and development of recreational flying.
